Non surgical treatment of Orthopedic conditions, T

Regenerative medicine is the science of delivering the body’s own cells and growth factors (PRP, bone marrow, and fat stem cells) into the injured or irritated joints or tendons to promote pain relief and healing.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelets are tiny cells in your blood that are storehouses of growth factors and play an important role in normal healing of damaged tissue.

PRP is made by drawing a small amount of blood and centrifuging it in FDA approved kits to yield plasma that has a high concentration of platelets along with other cells that are beneficial for healing. When this PRP is injected into a damaged joint, muscle or tendon can restart healing and regeneration in a natural way, leading to significant reduction of pain and swelling and increased strength and function. Two or more injections may be needed.

It is a simple procedure performed in outpatient setting with little or no risk. Mild pain or swelling can occur at the injection site, but patients can expect to return to normal activity after the procedure.

Bone Marrow Stem Cells

Adult stem cells are found in different tissues of the body and their primary function is to repair and maintain the tissue they are in. FDA allows the use if these stem cells for medical treatment as opposed to embryonic stem cells.

Bone marrow is the soft spongy tissue in your bones that contains stem cells that constantly produce blood cells and supply them into the blood stream. These stem cells have the potential to develop into muscle, bone cartilage, or blood vessel cells. They can also have an effect on the chemistry and biology of a joint by muting or elimination chronic inflammation. When introduces into damages tissue, they can promote healing and tissue regeneration leading to reduced pain and improved function.

Bone marrow aspiration is a minimally invasive office procedure performed under local anesthesia with little or no pain. It has fewer side effects compared to surgery. Some pain can be expected at the harvest and injection sites for a few days for which analgesic are prescribed.

Adipose (Fat) Stem Cells

Adipose tissue (fat) has abundant stem cells that can be utilized in tissue healing and regenerative medicine. These stem cells are harvested with mini liposuction in a minimally invasive office procedure. Local anesthesia is used and the procedure is quick and virtually pain free. Side effects include minor bruising and pain at the harvest site. This non surgical procedure is safe and has minimal or down time.

PRP, bone marrow, and adipose (fat) stem cells are used in combination for best results.
